Abstract Banana – Book
From the project ’52 Books’ which is an ongoing project.
Abstract Banana is based around the idea of words and colours. Each colour name starts with the letter that ends the previous colour, so the book starts at Nature leading to Eggshell, then Late Summer, Restless Week and so on.
The names are meant to match the colour they represent and each page contains the names of each colour that precedes it. I was interested in how we name colours and what starts out at seemingly reasonable, Green for Nature, a soft peach for Eggshell soon takes a turn for the obscure. The word game becomes as much of the reasoning behind each colour as what we reasonably could associate the name with, an observation maybe on the thousands of colour names given to household paints that can sometimes seem absurd and irreverent.
The book is constructed out of loose sheets of varying widths, Abstract Banana being the longest, Nature the shortest and is held together with simple clips.
